Tool # 10 Mobil devices and apps part 1

I went to the apple website and tried to find out about the applications available for the i pod touch and i pads. I'm confused by the terminology (i pod touch and i- touch ) are they one and the same? Anyway, I found a really good website that explains each application for the i-touch and i-pads, really well. Nothing like "playing" with the real thing. though.

Tool # 9 Jing and Skype

I installed and registered with Jing and Skype. I loved the screencast. I made a short video on using the toolbar for Word. An idea for Skype would be to have a teacher present a special lesson to two classes at one time. As teachers, we would like to observe our colleagues in action but we can't because we don't have anybody to stay with our class. Using Skype could help somehow. I am sure there is more to be discovered by me,but so far, I am really impressed by all the high tech that is available to use in the classroom.

Tool #8 Now for the kids

Videos to share

I tried to do a search on the sites recommended by the 11 tools. You Tube proved to be easier. Try to start your search with the words "third grade", "elementary", or the like, that way, you will avoid videos that have no academic content.

Guided reading in the intermediate level

Tool # 8 Video resources

Tool # 6 WIKIS

I went to the PBWorks and registered for the free workspace. I added three e-mail addresses of people with whom I usually collaborate. I started working on a reading response template. I would like ideas about what else to include in a beginning of the school year reading response template. Hopefully, we will finish this template before the school year starts.
It was really nice to see that I can create e-mail addresses for students. A way for students to use this space is to collaborate writing a story or to even work on literature circles completing the different assignments.

Tool # 5 Social Bookmarking

It was easy and fun. I found a couple of websites on guided reading. It is hard to see somebody in action doing guided reading. So here it is!!!

Where do we start?

Hey everybody who teaches reading, even if you don't. Where do you think we are supposed to start?

Crazy picture

I really hope you don't mind. I was looking for somethinlg meaninful to include in my blog and I came across this picture. Crazy people= crazy picture.

Tool # 4

I have uploaded and created my first document using Google Documents. I have only been able to add a couple of blogs on my list to follow. Some others I have not been able to include or subscribe for some reason.
I think students would be able to share a document and contribute to it from different computers using Google Documents. That's what I would call TEAM WORK. I think I'm going to try this during my writing class.

I got started on using the cool google tools. I went to Google Reader and created my account. I'll start adding my third grade team as soon as I get my blog registered. So who am I talking to really? In the mean time here is a link to one of the best resources that I have found in years. Be ready to enjoy and learn!

Tool # 3 Bilingual Pairs

Some bilingual pairs worked really well. Some other pairs we had to adjust several times. However, we hit a wall when there was no chemestry between the partners. Yes! You need chemestry in order for any people pair to work, including bilingual pairs. At the end of the day, or should I say the school year, we had better ideas about how to pair up students.

High expectations

But don't we have high expectations every year? Now, this is the year of high expectations in technology. We are not in a learning curve; we are in a learning line, upward, as one of my dearest mentors once said. Really, more technology is no surprise, ever since technology took upon education, or is it backwards? Well, think I am a minute away from embracing all of the newest of the new technology. I'm almost there... No, wait, wait for meee...Just when I was about to catch it, the technology train picked up speed, again... watch me pick up speed too.

Tool #2

An online community of educators who share ideas, has been there for some time, however it was lost in the mirage of the World Wide Web, where everything seems to be virtual, until you receive some type of human response. Information and answers to your questions were available just for the asking. What it would mean for us, the tired, overworked weekend warriors was, spending hours conducting research on new and old topics to enhance our teaching. Welcome to the 21 Century my friends!. If you were never a research weekend warrior, consider yourselves lucky. CHANGE IS HERE. Hopefully, by creating our community, the feedback will be prompt and continuous.
